WHAT IS IT ABOUT AND HOW TO RECOGNIZE IT
The KERATITIS is an inflammation of the cornea, that is the transparent anterior part of the eye.
The most common signs are redness of conjunctiva, photophobia, foreign body sensation, acute pain, lachrymation.
The KERATITIS could be of microbial origin (virus, bacteria, fungi), due to an intense exposition to ultraviolet rays, by irritation after prolonged use of contact lenses, related to eye dry syndrome or determined by a foreign body.
When it manifests itself as a result of an intense exposure to ultraviolet radiation, in case there wasn’t used an adequate protection, it is called actinic keratitis. This is characterized by blurred vision and pain, which usually increases at night.
Wearers of contact lenses have to carefully follow a good routine for proper care of their lenses. Lenses and preservation solution, in fact, could be contaminated and lead to an infection on the eye surface.
